CHALLENGE: How We Celebrate - Hanukkah & ChristmasPosted by San G. (Encino, California, United States) on 1 January 2009 in Abstract & Conceptual and Portfolio. We celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas (and Solstice) in our Unitarian Universalist home. On this particular evening, we had lit the Menorrah and the Christmas tree was already aglow. In a way, we recognize the return of the light. Whether this is the miracle of the sacred oil lasting 8 nights when the temple was reclaimed, or the joy of the sun's promise to return after having been diminished day after day ... or the hope in the form of the birth of a human baby who can unite us with thoughts of love and inclusion, tolerance and forgiveness. All these bring light to a place of increasing darkness and so ... in our home at least, we see the commonalities from one religion to another. I wish you all a wonderful, loving, rewarding New Year. XO - San Happy New Year, and may you all be written into the Book of Life again this year.
